A sunset stroll down Pescadero State Beach would be the perfect end to the day. If we just couldn't bear to say good-bye, Costonoa Lodge on the outskirts of the town offers accommodations for all tastes and budgets.
As much as I love to travel abroad, it's not always practical to do so in light of my limited number of vacation days. Lucky for Mr. Cool and I, we live in Northern California, and an amazing day (or weekend) trip is never too far away. As much as I love warm water and white sand, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Northern California's rocky coastlines, windswept beaches and salt-bitten seaside towns.
Last year, Mr. Cool and I joined Miss P for a hike through Ano Nuevo State Park in the coastal town of Pescadero. We couldn't make the trip again this year, but I think we're long overdue for a return visit. An ideal day in Pescadero would start with coffee at San Gregorio General Store, followed by a hike to Pigeon Point Lighthouse. After a couple of hours of exercise in the winter sun, we would stop in at Duarte's Tavern for fresh-baked sourdough bread, steaming bowls of artichoke soup and oozing slices of olallieberry pie for dessert.

What's your favorite day-trip spot close to where you live?
I love those views! Sadly I still need to find good day trip options close by though the botanical gardens and gardens by the bay are always nice!

I love what I've seen of Northern California, and I'm definitely hoping to spend more time there in the future. We like to head out of the DC area to Virginia's wine country when we have a chance, and we've also taken day trips to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and couple of the national parks/heritage areas in West Virginia.

My sister, who's my own "fashion adviser," was a huge help on it, and even though they made some changes to the intro that I think hurt the flow of the sentences a little bit, I'm still happy with the way it turned out overall.
